Mesut Ozil and Why He Was Missing in Qatar World Cup 2022

Mesut fans will wonder why they did not see Ozil play for the German team in World Cup 2022. He is a former player of Real Madrid and Arsenal who was out of Germany’s team for controversial reasons. His fans remember him as the player who helped Germany lift the World Cup in 2014. Now Ozil is 34 years of age, in the twilight of his playing career. However, he has the guile and quality to unlock the defense of any opposing team.

Ozil has appeared in 92 national-level matches. However, he has not appeared in World Cup matches after 2018. In the 2018 world cup Germany had a terrible tournament. That Mesut played the entire 90 minutes in the games they played against South Korea and Mexico. The same year in May Ozil interacted with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president. This was due to his Turkish ancestry.

However, the Turkish president was not welcomed much since he spoke out against present politics in Germany. He also had an existing reputation for abusing human rights. All this angered the public in Germany. After that Ozil’s contribution could not help Germany’s cause. That year Die Mannschaft showcased poor soccer skills. They were out in the tournament in the group stage itself after they suffered a defeat to the South Korean team.

Ozil was also criticized for not helping the German team to better their game in the tournament. However, Ozil feels that the criticisms were racist. As a result, he decided not to play on the national team anymore. In the statements given he stated that the treatment he received from DFB and many others made him not want to wear the national shirt of Germany anymore. He felt unwanted, and he felt that all his contributions since 2009 had been overlooked. For all these reasons, he was not found in the German team that went to Qatar.
