Arsene Wenger has recently opted to make a formation switch which is something extremely rare for the French manager as he has traditionally only used the same 4-2-3-1 formation for the past 20 years.
It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that after a string of mediocre results and performances that Wenger decided to reinvent himself and his team by using a different team structure by implementing a 3-4-2-1 and a 3-4-3 both of which are similar formations but just slightly distinctive.
This change of formation has forced Mesut Ozil on having to perform in a spot which is not his natural or more preferential one as the German has had to slip into the right wing position instead of his traditional attacking midfielder center role.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger was very pleased with the display of his players as they came from two goals down to get a 3-2 victory over Ludogorets.
Arsenal produced a brilliant display to reach the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League. Wenger said he thought Mesut Ozil made a mistake as he tried to outfox the defense of the opposition before he scored the amazing match winner.
“To me it didn’t look like the optimal solution, but when the ball was in the net I thought it was. The great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face. They always make the optimal solution,” Wenger said.
The former Real Madrid player chipped the ball over the Ludogrets goalkeeper before moving to beat two defenders and scoring in an empty net. The brilliant individual goal has earned him praise from several quarters. Arsenal humbled the hosts two weeks ago by whopping them 6-0 at the Emirates. The Bulgarians were determined to prove a point, hence their quick two goals under 15 minutes. Arsenal had to dig deep to get the victory. Continue reading WENGER: MESUT OZIL PROVED ME WRONG
Leicester City’s historic Premier League winning season is something that took everyone by surprise. Even the own supporters and players of the club weren’t expecting to rise above every other club in the English League and become the new champions of England but it happened.
Claudio Ranieri was one of the main figures behind this extraordinary season and the Italian coach himself has stated it still baffles him as to how exactly his team was able to overcome everything in their path and win their first Premier League title in the history of the club.
When the 64 year old coach was asked about his thoughts of the previous season as well as the upcoming one, the Italian manager replied by saying:
“At the beginning our goal was to be safe. Slowly, the team got confidence, it was a very, very amazing performance, match by match, day by day, they work so hard and we improved a lot…
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech claims that midfielder Mesut Ozil is one of the biggest threats for Arsenal, as the unpredictability provided by the German is especially tough for goalkeepers.
Cech has played alongside Ozil for his first season after the move to the Emirates stadium last summer.
Even though the season has ended without any trophies for the Czech Republic goalkeeper, it has been positive campaign on a personal level. He has also witnessed Ozil step up his game a lot more compared to recent seasons.
The German recently claimed that the secret towards his consistent campaign was a significant change in early-season preparation in order to counter the lack of winter break. The 2015-16 campaign was one of the best for Ozil after he came very close to beating the Premier League assist record that has been standing for a more than a decade. The former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry holds the record for the most number of assists (20) in a Premier League season. Ozil came within one assist of this record. The main challenge for Ozil will be to continue replicating this form even into next season. This may be difficult because Ozil is likely to be the main man for Germany at the Euro 2016. Barcelona might be interested in signing Mesut Ozil in the summer with the Spanish club preparing a player and money deal. There is a special clause in Ozil contract that specifies that Real Madrid has the first refusal in case he is sold to a rival Spanish club. So as to circumvent this clause, Barcelona will try to offer players in exchange of Ozil.
The three players that will be offered to Arsenal are ArdaTuran, Sandro Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi and in fairness will not be a big upgrade on players Arsenal currently has. If ever, Ozil is going to be sold it is likely that Wenger will be interested in a transfer fee above the £42.5million that Arsenal paid to Real Madrid in 2013.
Mesut Ozil has made 110 appearances so far for the Gunners and has scored 19 goals. However, Ozil should not be judged by the number of goals he scored but rather on the number of assists, and chances created. And it is this creativity that Barcelona will want to bring to the Nou Camp. And with players such as Messi, Suarez and Neymar up front, a team consisting of Ozil behind these forwards can be difficult to stop.
MesutOzil has undoubtedly been one of the main figures of Arsenal in this season. The German has provided his teammates with 16 assists which is more than anyone else in the entire Premier League and the German was once again in sublime form during Arsenal’s goal-less draw against Southampton.
Arsenal hosted Southampton at the Emirates Stadium and even though Ozil created 10 goal-scoring chances, it wasn’t enough for his teammates to capitalize as the match finalized without any goals for either side.
Southampton’s Fraser Forster was on fire in this match as the English goal-keeper made a number of brilliant saves which kept his team from falling behind in the scoreboard but these are the kind of matches that Arsenal have to win if they want to continue charging for the top spot of the Premier League. One of the top summer targets of Manchester City is Paul Pogba of Juventus but trying to sign the French player is very difficult as he is also being targeted by a number of top European clubs including: Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Taking into consideration just how complicated it will be to sign Paul Pogba, Manchester City are already searching for a backup option and one of these backup’s is Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.
Manchester City are believed to be preparing an offer of around €40 million in order to tempt Arsenal in selling Wilshere but the English player might be out of the reach of Manchester City as well because Arsene Wenger is not interested in releasing one of his most promising young figures.
The French manager Arsene Wenger is viewing Jack Wilshere as the future of Arsenal’s central midfield and will attempt to secure his services for as long as possible. Even at his young age, Wilshere is already one of the candidates of becoming the captain of Arsenal in the near future.
Liverpool were once again disappointing in the league after they threw away a two-goal lead to only manage a 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
Nigel Pearson’s team came to Anfield bottom of the league table, but they put in a spirited performance that earned them a point. It could have been much more had it not been for some poor refereeing decisions, which handed Liverpool two penalties in the 90 minutes.
Steven Gerrard converted both penalties with amazing ease, but Leicester came back at them without grievances over the poor decisions.
