Arsene Wenger did not know what starting XI he was going to field when he turned up at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday as there was uncertainty in his mind about the body-condition of his players.
Arsenal had had a top-flight game on the New Year day as well and then after merely 50 hours or so, they found themselves going into a game again and to make the scenario worse, it was an away game.
It put Wenger in a state of indecision. He had no idea how big a risk it would be to insert those players who already had 90 minutes on Sunday, how many of them could get through it for the second time in two days.
It’s only after he saw the team go through the pre-match drills that he made the mind whom he could go with again.
Arsenal play maker could make a move that will see him play at Real Madrid again, reports say.
The German midfielder is reportedly contemplating a sensational move to Spain. The report comes after the German international is believed to have signed a new lucrative deal at the Emirates.
German new source, Bild, claims that Ozil was set to receive a pay rise from £140,000 per week to £200,000 a week. The same outlet reported that after 24 hours, Ozil seems to be looking at returning to his former club. Before Ozil signed the deal, he wanted two things. First, he wanted the No. 10 role that is free following the loan deal of Jack Wilshere to Bournemouth. Also, he wants the club to guarantee that they remain committed to bringing in top players that will make a world-class squad. If the club doesn’t meet these demands, then Ozil will return to play in the La Liga.
Ozil’s current deal is set to lapse in 2018, but reports say the player’s new deal would tie him to the Emirates till 2021. Truly, Ozil could sign the deal, protecting his future, yet seek a return to Madrid in the coming summer.
Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger had already admitted that talks with Ozil were in the pipeline, but nothing has been formalized. Bild had earlier reported that Ozil relishes the opportunity to return to Madrid, so only time will tell if the report is true. Continue reading OZIL COULD RETURN TO MADRID
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech claims that midfielder Mesut Ozil is one of the biggest threats for Arsenal, as the unpredictability provided by the German is especially tough for goalkeepers.
Cech has played alongside Ozil for his first season after the move to the Emirates stadium last summer.
Even though the season has ended without any trophies for the Czech Republic goalkeeper, it has been positive campaign on a personal level. He has also witnessed Ozil step up his game a lot more compared to recent seasons.
The German recently claimed that the secret towards his consistent campaign was a significant change in early-season preparation in order to counter the lack of winter break. The 2015-16 campaign was one of the best for Ozil after he came very close to beating the Premier League assist record that has been standing for a more than a decade. The former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry holds the record for the most number of assists (20) in a Premier League season. Ozil came within one assist of this record. The main challenge for Ozil will be to continue replicating this form even into next season. This may be difficult because Ozil is likely to be the main man for Germany at the Euro 2016. MesutOzil has undoubtedly been one of the main figures of Arsenal in this season. The German has provided his teammates with 16 assists which is more than anyone else in the entire Premier League and the German was once again in sublime form during Arsenal’s goal-less draw against Southampton.
Arsenal hosted Southampton at the Emirates Stadium and even though Ozil created 10 goal-scoring chances, it wasn’t enough for his teammates to capitalize as the match finalized without any goals for either side.
Southampton’s Fraser Forster was on fire in this match as the English goal-keeper made a number of brilliant saves which kept his team from falling behind in the scoreboard but these are the kind of matches that Arsenal have to win if they want to continue charging for the top spot of the Premier League. After being heavily criticised towards the end of last season, it was feared that Mesut Ozil may look to demand a transfer away from Arsenal.
He did not appear well-suited to the rigours of English football where players now not even get to enjoy a winter break. In the last few months, though, there have been signs that Ozil may start to recapture his old form. This was finally evident in the 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool during the weekend when the German midfielder scored one of the goals from a freekick. After the match, he stated that he is starting to enjoy English football where games come thick and fast.
Last season, Ozil was visibly tired in the second half and this forced manager Arsene Wenger to rest him even from high-profile matches in the Champions League. After almost 2 years in the Premier League, it appears that the 27-year-old is starting to get used to a regular run of matches without rest. Signed from Real Madrid for £42.5 million, Ozil is the club’s record signing and it was expected that the team would be built around him. The German is showing finally that he is capable of being the main man in a team unlike at Real Madrid. Continue reading Mesut Ozil may look to demand a transfer away from Arsenal
Liverpool were once again disappointing in the league after they threw away a two-goal lead to only manage a 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
Nigel Pearson’s team came to Anfield bottom of the league table, but they put in a spirited performance that earned them a point. It could have been much more had it not been for some poor refereeing decisions, which handed Liverpool two penalties in the 90 minutes.
Steven Gerrard converted both penalties with amazing ease, but Leicester came back at them without grievances over the poor decisions.
